The Father’s Heart

We talk about the “Father’s Heart” a lot and you might ask: “What’s that all about?”

In the ‘Sermon on the Mount’, Jesus mentions “Your Father in Heaven” 16 times.  That’s a lot!  He was trying to make the point that the Christian experience is supposed to reconnect you to your Father in Heaven.

Different words in english have different meanings to different people, like the word “happy”, or the word “communicate”.  The word “Father” had a specific meaning to Jesus, and often our definition is not the same as His.  Our definition of “Father” is not taught by reading a dictionary or from socials class in elementary school; it is learned through experience.  We all agree that a “Father” is the male parent (or it could be another male role-model).  We don’t all agree on what these men are like.  Was your father the same as all your friends’ fathers?  Consider for a moment that we don’t know anything about the heart of God if we think that our current definition of “Father” explains God.

Jesus said, “If you have seen me, you have seen the Father” and “Everything I do is what I have seen the Father do”.  Go back and read the stories of Jesus again and substitute the name of God in place of Jesus and you will begin to understand what God is truly like.

You will see God forgiving, not judging, healing, loving, and host of other things that you may never have ascribed to God before.

This understanding is foundational and when you start to relate to ‘this’ definition of Father God, it will effect everything you do; and more importantly, it will effect everything about who you are.
